Application Process: Firefighter/EMT

All applicants to become a Firefighter/EMT must take the Firefighter/EMT written entry-level examination, pass a physical abilities test, and pass psychological and medical examinations before being eligible to join a recruit class at the DC Fire/Emergency Medical Services Training Academy. Firefighter/EMT entry-level examinations are administered when there are no remaining qualified applicants from the previous examination – generally every two to three years.

The most recent Firefighter/EMT entry-level examination was administered on April 29, 2003. The next Firefighter/EMT entry-level examination will be administered on May 20, 2006. Applications can be picked up in person from all DC Fire/EMS locations or the DC Office of Personnel, Reeves Center, 2000 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC.

To find out more about careers with the DC Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department, call the DC Fire/EMS Recruiting Officer at (202) 673-3330.
